It’s before 7 am and I’m headed to the softball fields. I’m tired. I wish I could have slept in. I don’t remember the last time I got to sleep in without having to get up and be somewhere. But, this is exactly how I want it to be. My kids are active. They love sports. I dreamt of sitting on sidelines and cheering them on, and it’s here. And before you say it, I know—someday I’ll miss being exhausted on behalf of my kids.
This is the irony of motherhood, right? What’s a gift is also a burden. What brings joy also brings exhaustion. Excitement is also grounded in anxiety.
So, moms, on this Mother’s Day, just know that I see you. I feel the same pull of two things being true at once. But that’s what makes us special. We find a way to feel and navigate both.
The result is usually not perfect, but it’s usually good enough.
And dammit, moms, that’s remarkable.
Happy Mother’s Day.
